Artist's Biography
Stephen began doing sculpture about 25 years ago while working as a
psychologist. After retiring from the practice of psychology in 2010, he built
a studio at his home in Placitas, where he has lived since 1988.
He began working in stone. In the past 4 years his work expanded to include
copper, steel, and bronze. He has developed his unique process of working in
metals and focuses on human forms, often from models and more recently,
from subjects through a process of life casting. While some forms are done
more than once, each piece is unique and done individually, so each is one-
of-a-kind. Processes used in working with metals include brazing, in copper
pieces, welding, in steel pieces, and molten metals in the bronzes.
