About the Artist — Marie Maher
I have been interested in the visual arts ever since I was a child, but
unfortunately decided to pursue a more "safe" path and worked outside of
the art world for many years. However, a couple of years ago I became
very involved in photography again. I've taken a couple of classes and
joined a local photography club. Over the last few years I have entered
several juried photo contests and art shows. In doing so, I have received
quite a bit of positive recognition.
Although my photography encompasses a wide variety of themes, I
especially like to shoot in abandoned places. I find that these subjects can
evoke the mystical or dark emotions associated with places long forgotten.
I often work to further emphasize the dark mood inherent in such places.
I also like to explore the interplay of light and shadow and sometimes
create pieces of an abstract nature that encourage the viewer to
contemplate the image. I work in both color and black & white.
