Mary Lee Dereske - Biography
Mary Lee Dereske’s passion is to show you the world through her eyes. From
the serenity of “Lake Michigan’s Lost Horizon” to the edginess of “At the Foot
of the Lunatic’s Bed” she shares both image and emotion with you.
Like film photographers developing negatives, Mary Lee works in the digital
darkroom optimizing her images. She balances colors and light, and brings
out details in her images. Although some images may be cropped or in black
and white, all images are the world as it was the day she made the image.
Mary Lee left the ‘rat race’ in 2011 and has since devoted time to sharing her
art with others. Her work has shown at InSight Women’s Photography Exhibit
(2012, 2013), Image New Mexico (2012), the Annual New Mexico
Photographic Art Show (2012), and the City of Albuquerque Open Space
show “This Time. This Place.” (2013). In addition, she has donated images
for fund raising for the Placitas Community Library, and - in Michigan - the
Ruby Creek Conservation and Recreation Club, and Ludington’s Historic
White Pine Village.
Mary Lee continuously studies photography through seminars and
workshops. Most recently, she has studied with Jay Maisel at Maine Media
Workshops and with Norman Mauskopf at Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.
A native of Michigan, Mary Lee has lived in New Mexico since the mid 1980s.
