Artist's Biography
Gayle Elaine Scott
I was born and raised in New Mexico and have lived in Placitas for the past
11 years. Some form of art has always found a way to be present in my life
in spite of raising a family and working for 35 years. Since I retired in 2004 I
have been experimenting with a diverse variety of art forms and media and
enjoy the learning involved in the various processes more than the finished
product. Each new process seems to spur another creative idea so I am
never bored or burnt out and I always have multiple projects that I am
working on. My most recent processes are combining broken glass over
acrylic paintings and doing sculptures that I cover with my hand formed
fused glass pieces. I like to work with series and I have been working since
2011 on a series called ‘That Santa Fe Look’ which is an ongoing project
because I get my inspiration from the people attending Indian Market in
Santa Fe. It is especially interesting when I see the same people in different
southwestern attire year after year.
I experiment with alcohol inks, airbrushing, acrylics, oils, pastels, clay, fused
and stained glass, concrete, sand casting, life-casting, mosaics, monotypes,
solar plates, collages, and 3-D sculptures.
I am fortunate to have a creative partner who works with wood, metal, stone
and concrete so that we can at times collaborate on projects utilizing both
our skills. We have worked together on several large outdoor art pieces for
our yard. We also worked together to build the sign for our neighborhood in
Placitas Heights.
