My love of woodworking began when I was a child watching my grandfather refinish antiques. My life took me on a different path and away from wood: into medical school and a career as an emergency room physician. I never had the time I hoped to use for woodworking. In 1996, after fifteen years in the emergency room, that all changed. I had a stroke that left my speech, reading and writing abilities severely impaired. At age 42, I retired from medicine and built a woodworking shop at my home in Placitas, where I have lived for over 20 years. Although I came home from the hospital in a wheelchair, rigorous rehabilitation gave me back the ability to use all four limbs, and to do the work I do today in my shop. Woodworking allows me a creative way to express myself. I enjoy working with exotic woods like ebony, purple heart and tulipwood because of the differences in their color and grain. Each of my cutting boards and serving trays are individually hand crafted and unique. I make them using a table saw, jointer and planer, and sanders. My work is meant to be useful as well as beautiful, and the cutting boards and serving trays are a colorful addition to any fine kitchen.
